Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about therapy, pricing, privacy, and our services

Getting Started

What should I expect in my first session?

Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and what you hope to achieve. This is also a time for you to ask questions and see if we're a good fit. There's no pressure—therapy is a collaborative process, and it's important that you feel comfortable.

How do I book an appointment?

You can book directly through our online scheduling system on the Book a Session page. Simply select a time that works for you, and you'll receive a confirmation email with the Google Meet link for your virtual session. If you have questions before booking, feel free to contact us.

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral to book therapy sessions with Innera. You can book directly online or contact us to get started.

What platform do you use for virtual sessions?

All sessions are conducted via Google Meet with a PIPEDA-certified configuration to ensure your privacy and security. You'll receive a secure meeting link via email after booking.

Pricing & Insurance

What is your sliding scale pricing?

Our sessions range from $80-120 per 50-60 minute session, based on a sliding scale. Your rate is determined by your financial situation and is discussed confidentially during the intake process. We believe therapy should be accessible, and we work with clients to find a rate that works for them. Visit our Pricing page for more details.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes! We provide official receipts that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Most Canadian extended health plans cover psychotherapy services under "Registered Psychotherapist" or "Mental Health Practitioner." Direct billing with select insurers is coming soon. Please check with your insurance provider about your specific coverage before booking.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept credit/debit cards via Stripe and Interac e-Transfer. Payment is due at the time of service.

Do you offer a free consultation?

While we don't offer free sessions, we're happy to answer questions via email or phone before you book. Reach out to us at [email protected] or (416) 474-9965 if you'd like to discuss whether our services are right for you.

Sessions & Scheduling

How long are sessions?

Standard individual therapy sessions are 50-60 minutes long.

Are sessions virtual or in-person?

All sessions are currently conducted virtually via secure Google Meet video calls. This allows for flexibility and accessibility from the comfort of your own space.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours advance notice for cancellations or rescheduling to avoid being charged the full session fee. We understand that emergencies and extenuating circumstances occur, and exceptions can be made. Please see our full cancellation policy for details.

How often should I attend therapy?

This depends on your individual needs and goals. Many clients start with weekly sessions and may transition to bi-weekly as they progress. We'll work together to determine the frequency that best supports your therapeutic journey.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Is therapy confidential?

Yes, absolutely. Everything you share in therapy is confidential and protected by law. There are only a few legal exceptions where confidentiality must be broken: if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, if there is suspected abuse of a child or vulnerable person, or if required by a court order. These situations are rare, and we will always discuss them with you if they arise.

Are sessions recorded?

No, therapy sessions are never recorded. What you share stays between you and your therapist.

Who has access to my information?

Therapeutic Approach

What therapy approaches do you use?

Elif integrates various evidence-based therapeutic modalities tailored to each client's unique needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Mindfulness, Trauma-Informed approaches, and more. Learn more about Elif's approach on the About page.

How long does therapy take?

The length of therapy varies for each person and depends on your goals, the issues you're working on, and your progress. Some clients find relief in a few sessions, while others benefit from longer-term support. We'll regularly check in about your progress and adjust our approach as needed.

Can I bring a family member to sessions?

Individual therapy sessions are typically one-on-one between you and your therapist. However, if you feel it would be beneficial to include a family member or partner in a session, we can discuss this possibility.
